Assembly Assistance

If you purchased one of our Nest Box Kits, a basic assembly is required.  You should have received an assembly instruction sheet with your kit.  If you do not have the assembly instruction, or need further detail, please refer to the information below:

Step 1

Remove all the parts and place each piece of wood with the label facing up.  The side with the label is always the side that will be on the inside of the box.  Also remove the hardware (screws).  There should be fifteen (15) long screws (1 5/8th inch), three (3) small screws (1 inch), and one (1) double-headed nail.  The picture below shows all pieces and hardware (without the labels).  The screw driver pictured below is not included:

Step 2:

Attach the "fixed side" piece to the "back" piece with three (3) large screws.  Check the labels to be sure of correct position.  Aside from the label, the "fixed side" piece can be distinguished from the "door side" piece by counting the number of pre-drilled screw holes along the long edge.  The "fixed side" piece should have three (3) pre-drilled holes while the "door side" piece should only have one(1).  The two side pieces and the "back" piece are shown in the first two images below.  The assembly procedure for Step 2 is demonstrated in the other image:

Side Pieces  Back Piece  Step One

Step 3:

Attach the "side door" to the "back" with one (1) large screw.  This is the door that you will open when monitoring your nest box.  It does not attach to the "floor" piece.  The image below demonstrates this step:

Step 3

Step 4:

Attach the "floor" piece to the "back" piece and the "fixed door" with two (2) larged screws.  Note:  The "floor" piece has three pre-drilled screw holes.  The "side door" piece does not attach to the "floor" piece.  Line the three holes in the "floor" piece with the "back" piece and the "fixed side" piece.  The third hole in the "floor" piece  will attach to the "front" piece in the next step.  This step and the next require careful alignment without great visibility.  Take your time and make sure the screws are well positioned for each pre-drilled hole in each piece.  Remember, the sides with the labels should be on the inside of the box.  The first image below shows the "floor" piece.  The second image demonstrates this step.

Bottom Piece  Step 4

Step 5:

Attach the "front" piece to the "fixed side," "door side," and "floor" pieces with five (5) large screws.  The first image below shows the "front" piece.  The other image demonstrates this step.

Front Piece  Step 5

 Step 6:

Attach the "roof" piece to the box with four (4) large screws.  Be sure the piece is positioned so that it overhangs the front side and the angle on the back is flush.  The first picture below shows the "roof" piece (the top).  The second picture demonstrates this step:

Roof Piece  Step 6

Step 7:

Attach the "predator guard" to the "front" piece with two (2) small screws.  The first picture below shows the "predator guard" piece.  The second picture demonstrates this step.

Predator Guard Piece  Step 7

Step 8:

Partially screw one (1) small screw into the bottom of the "side door" piece where the pre-drilled hole is located.  This is the handle for pulling the door open, so only screw it partially into the wood.  The picture below demonstrates this step:

Step 8

Step 9:

Insert the "door pin" through the "front" piece and into the "side door" where the angled pre-drilled hole is located.  The pin inserts at an angle toward the bottom of the box.  Remove and replace the pin as needed to open and close the "side door."  The image below demonstrates this step:

Step 9
